Mera peak is considered one of the major and popular trekking peaks in Nepal. The Peak itself rises to the south of Everest. The ascent of the peak is technically straightforward, however, the heavy snow and the maze of crevasses can make the way longer to the summit.

Among the peaks of Nepal, Mera (6476meters) is the highest permitted trekking peak. Mera Peak is situated to the south of Everest dominating the watershed of the thickly wooded and remote Hinku valley. Climbing Mera peak boasts a stunning panorama of five of the worlds 8000 meters peaks- Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Cho-Oyu, Lhotse and of course Mt. Everest. Mera peak climbing route ascends through the standard northern Mera La after a few days of acclimatization hike of surrounding peaks and climbing clinic sessions briefed and instructed by experienced mountain experts on techniques and use of climbing gears so that you acquire the necessary skills and confidence to summit the Mera peak.

  Day to Day Itinerary  
 


Day 01. Kathmandu (approx 1300m) -Jiri (Approx. 2000m)
It takes about 9-10 hrs by bus to get up to Jiri. On the driving day from Kathmandu to jiri you will be passing through beautiful mountains. Nice views of Mt. Gauri Shanker, Purbi Ghachu, Ganchampoo and more. Crossing over the rivers and green scenery. If we arrive before dark we will camp otherwise this first night will be spend in a small guesthouse. Guide meeting.

Day 02. Jiri (approx 2000m) -Shivalaya (Approx.1800m)
It takes about 4 hrs. Gradual up to a small pass in 2300 m with view over the pine forest. You will be passing through many villages e.g. Bagh Ghar, Chitre, Mali. Shivalaya is situated right on the bank of Khimti Khola (Khola means river in Nepali).

Day 03. Shivalaya (approx 1800m) -Bhandar (Approx.2200m)
It takes about 6 hrs from Shivalaya to Bhandar. It is steep climbing up for 4 hrs and then reach Deurali pass in 2700 m. If it’s a clear day, you can see must of the route for the next days. After Deurali it is steep down. In this day you can see the Sherpa villages and Monestary. This though day end in Bhandar, which is inhabited by Sherpas.

Day 04. Bhandar (approx 2200m)- Sete (Approx. 2500m)
This is a downhill and up hill day before the steep treks up to Sete. It takes about 6-7 hours to reach Sete. When you reach the Sherpa village Kenja in 1640 m, you are at the foothill, just under Sete. There is a small monestary in Sete.

Day 05. Sete (approx 2500m) - June Bensi (Approx. 2600m)
It takes about 6-7 hrs to get to Juni Bensi from Sete. On the way to the Lamajura pass in 3500m you will come through great Rhododendron forest and the village of Goyem 3100m. Lamajura is clear of the forest and named after its shape of a saddle. As most other passes in this region colorful Buddhist prayer flags marks the pass. We decent round 900m to June Bensi. June Bensi is a famous Sherpa village and you can visit the Buddhist monastery and you can get the view of Mt. Numbur.

Day 06. Juni Bensi (approx 2600m) - Nuntha la (approx. 2200m)
It is 6-7 hrs walks between juni Bensi to Nuntha la. If the weather is clear you can have a view of world highest mountain “Everest” from the place called Salung, which is on the way from juni Bensi to Nunthala. You will also be passing tak sindu monastery on this day.

Day 07. Nuntha la- Khari Khola (approx.2070m)
It takes about 5 hrs from Nunthala to Khari Khola. It is steep down for about 2 and half hours and then gradual up. You will be passing through the rai village and Dudkoshi River.

Day 08. Khari Khola- Pangkongma (Approx.3100m)
It takes about 4 hrs from Khari khola to Pangkongma. It is steep up for about 2 hrs and then level walk. You will be walking through forest and Sherpa villages. There is also a monestary in Pangkongma. You can have nice view of Mt. Numbur and Konde Peak on this way.

Day 09. Pangkongma- Kharkibo (Gombadanda) 3600m
From Pangum trail goes up to the pass of 3100m then follow the ridge all the way to Kharkibok. It takes about 5 hrs from Pangkongma to Kharkibo.

Day 10. Kharkibo- Thuli Kharka (4300m)
From Kharkibo the trail goes up hill some time, gradual and little down. It takes 5-6 hrs from Kharkibo to Thuli Kharka. You can see Mera peak, Charpate Himal, Kusum Kangaru and other trekking peaks on this day.

Day 11. Thuli Kharka- Kothe (3500m)
From Thuli Kharka trail goes little gradual up then descends down to the river, nice mixed forest. Some part before reaching to the river it is nice and little ascends. From river it is up hill to Kothe. It takes about 6-7 hrs to Kothe from Thuli Kharka. You can have a look on Mera peak from some places on the way.

Day 12. Kothe- Thagnak (4300m)
It is 4-5 hrs walks from Kothe to Thagnak. From kothe trail follow the river up ward all the way to Thagnak. In this day you can have great view of Mera, Mera la Glacier and other mountain as well. Thagnak is a small Sherpa Village.

Day 13. Rest Day for acclimatize

Day 14. Tangnag (approx 4300m)-Khare (approx.5000m)
This is an up hill trail for about 4 hours. You can have view to Mera peak, Kusum Kangaru and many more.

Day 15. Rest day in Khare for acclimatization
Check your climbing gear and if you like to, do a day hike.

Day 16. Khare -Mera La

Day 17. Mera La-High camp

Day 18. High camp via Mera Peak to Khare
It takes about 11 hrs to go to Mera Central peak 6461 (last ten meter not possible to climb due to dangerous crack in the glacier) and back to Khare from high camp. We start round 3 am From the top of Mera peak you can see panoramic view of Mt. Everest, Makalu, Amadablam, Barunche and others.

Day 19. Khare-Kote

Day 20. Kote-Tuli Kharka

Day 21. Tuli Kharka-Lukla

Day 22. Lukla-Kathmandu (End of Trek)

Note:
We suggest you to bring Crampons and Gaiters yourself because when you buy climbing boots you can look for adjustable Crampons and Gaiters for your boots from the store there. You can choose the comfortable one. Nevertheless, if you want you can use ours, this is just to give you a suggestion.
