Sikkim Trek has attraction as Kanchendzonga National Park (KNP) is situated in the North District of Sikkim, with total area of 850 sq. kms. covering the highest elevation range (1829 to 8585 metres) in the country. The area of the park of spectacular wilderness with one of the highest mountain peaks towering above virtually undisturbed forest cover. There are many glaciers in the park area. amongst them the Zemu Glacier is the longest and most awesome. The lofty Mt. Kanchendzonga (8585 m) which literally means 'Abode of Gods consisting of five Treasure Houses' including the five peaks are Narshing, Pandim, Simvo, Kabru and Siniolchu. The most beautiful amongst these peaks are Mt. Pandim , Mt. Narshing and Mt. Siniolchu which lie in the park area. The topography and the peaks along with the forest wilderness in the park area forms the main attraction of the KNP which attracts nature & adventure lovers from all over the world. Among the avifauna of the state which consists of almost 550 species of birds many are to be found in abundance in the KNP like Blood Pheasants, Satyr Tragopan, Osprey, Himalayan griffon, Lammergeier, snow pigeon, Impeyan phesants, sunbirds & eagles.

The variation of altitude and vegetation have enriched the park area with rich variety of flora. The temperate broad leaved forest are dominated by Qurcus spp, Schima Spp, Castanopsis Spp, Acer Spp, Birch Betula Spp, Himalayan Larch, Lari griffithi etc. In the Alpine scrub and grass the common scrubs found are Mecohopsis, Primula Rhododendron, etc. besides these there are many medicinal plants.among the fauna to be found in the park area is the famous Snow Leopard (Panthera Uncia) which holds the apex position. The other best known animals are Clouded Leopard, himalayan black bear, Red panda, Blue Sheep , Musk deer, Himalayan thar, Lesser Cats, Tibetan wolf, Serow, Great Tibetan sheep. The trekking spot that falls under the KNP are Dzongri-Thangshing-Gochala-Chaurigang (Khanchendzonga Base Camp), Green Lake-Jakthang-Yabuk etc. Adarsh Tours and Travels organises trekking and mountaineering expedition to the various circuts in the fascinating park which is one of the highest and exotic in the Himalayas .

 

  Day to Day Itinerary  
 


Day 01: Gangtok –Pemayangtse
After breakfast transfer to Pemayangtse. On arrival at Pemayangtse check in tourist Lodge and local S/s. Alt. 2085m/ Distance - 112 / 5 hrs drive

Day 02: Pemayangtse -- Yuksom
After breakfast visit the Pemayantse Monastery, the second oldest monastery in Sikkim built in 1705. Thereafter drive to Yuksom, the first capital of Sikkim where the first king of sikkim was consecrated in 1642 A.D. It is set in loneliness and tranquility amidst the beautiful backdrop. Short walks can be done to flex and acclimatize.

Day 03: Yuksom -- Tsokha
Trek begins here. This trek takes you through dense verdant Semi Tropical forest occassionaly crossed by Crystal clear rivulets and cascading water falls up to Praig Chu. After lunch a steep climb for an hour brings you to Tsokha - a small Tibetian hamlet from where the first glimpse of the mountains can be seen. O/N at trekkers huts/tents. Approx. Alt. 3050m & Distance 16kms/6 hours

Day 04: Tsokha -- Dzongri
A gradual up hill walk along a well-marked track leads you through fascinating rhododendron forests running riot with colours. Further up hill from Phedang, Dzongri commands a panoramic view of snow capped mountain peaks. O/N at trekker's huts/ tents. Alt. 4030m & Dist. 9 kms/ 4 hrs

Day 05 : Dzongri
A full day will be spent at Dzongri. Venture out in the cool environment where one can relax. On a clear day one can see the fantastic view of mountain peaks including that of Kanchanjungha and Pandim. O/N at trekker's huts/ tents.

Day 06: Dzongri – Thangsing
Trek from Dzongri across a distance of approximately 7 ½ kms leads through meadows and valleys down the burrows leads into the most beautiful valley of all; Thangsing, situated with forests and rivulets which is surrounded on all sides by massive mountains. O/N at trekker's huts/ tents. Alt. 3940 & Dist. 8 Kms/ 3 hours.

Day 07: Thangsing -- Samithi
From Thangsing trek goes past the onlathang valley, past several lakes and each step more closer to Kanchenjunga . Overnight at Samithi Lake . O/N at trekker's huts/ tents. Alt. 4500m & Dist. 3kms/ 1 ½ hrs

Day 08: Samithi – Goechla and return to Thangshing
Optional; is the trek from Samithi to Goechala which is the highest point of the trek- Alt. 5000 m (5 kms/ 2 hrs). The Kanchanjunga appears right in front from here. Return trek to Thangsing.

Day 09: Thangsing – Tsokha
Return trek from Thangsing to Tsokha.It is mostly downhill today and you are now fit to cover the distance of the previous two nights. Distance 17 kms/ 6 ½ hrs. O/N at trekker's huts/ tents.

Day 10: Tsokha –Yuksom
Return trek to Yuksom. O/N at trekkers huts/tents.

Day 11: Yuksom – Gangtok/ Pemayangtse/ Darjeeling etc.

Day 12: Gangtok –Departure.
