KASKI, NOV 30 - Ground levelling and fencing for the construction of a regional international airport at Chhinedanda in Pokhara will be completed within the current fiscal year.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has directed the high-level committee formed for the constriction to complete the design of the strip area and runway of the airport within the current fiscal year.
Organizing a press meet, the committee said the authority had released Rs. 1 million for an engineering survey and detailed design of the airport as well as to level the ground. The authority has allocated Rs. 50 million for the airport construction. The high-level committee was formed by the CAAN board last year under the chairmanship of CA member Rajkaji Gurung.
The Chinese government has given high priority to supporting the construction at the request of the Nepal government. The committee will stop farming on the 3,106 ropanis of land acquired for the airport from this year. The airport will have a 2,500-metre long and 50-metre wide runway after the upgrade. On the approach side, construction of any physical infrastructure has been banned for up to 400 metres.
