Everest summiteers Danish march past today

COPENHAGEN: The Mount Everest summiteers have gathered in Copenhagen for the historic march past in front of Danish Parliament here. The oldest summiteer Min Bahadur Sherchan to the youngest climber Nim Doma Sherpa arrived here today for the march past slated for tomorrow.
The climbers will press the world leaders, who are holding Global Climate Change Conference here, to save the Himalayas from melting.”The cabinet meeting on the Mount Everest Base Camp on December 4 was a historic event and we are here to take the next historic step to save the Himalayas,” said Sushmita Maskey, team leader of the women Everest summiteers.
“Thirty-two summiteers from Nepal are already in Copenhagen and the renowned summiteers are on the way to join the march,” said Dr Siddhartha Bajracharya, Coordinator, Summiteers’ Summit to Save the Himalayas.
The march past will last for about an hour. Five ministers from Nepal and the foreign minister of Denmark will take part.
“The climbers have witnessed the impact of the climate change and they are the people who should tell the world about the rapid melting of the Himalayas due to the impact of climate change,” said Deepak Bohara, Minister for Forest and Soil Conservation.
Besides Bohara, Minister for Culture Minendra Rijal, Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Sharat Singh Bhandari, Finance Minister Surendra Pandey and Minister for Environment Thakur Prasad Sharma are already in Copenhagen.

Non-resident Nepalis, the Denmark Student Association and Nepali delegates are busy making preparations for the march past, said Som Nath Sapkota, President, Non-Resident Nepalis’ Association, Denmark. Ace climber Apa Sherpa and Aangrita Sherpa will be among those addressing a programme to be held after the march past.
