Bus park to open soon

Thursday - 21st January 2010

KAKARVITTA: Tek Bahadur Bus Park, considered the biggest in the eastern region and to be equipped with modern facilities, will open from Baishakh, Nepali New Year day.
Construction and management committee chairman Uddhav Thapa said all construction work will be completed by then. The bus park sprawling over two bighas of land in Birtamod is being constructed at a cost of over Rs 35 million. The terminal building, entrance road and compound wall have already been completed. The blacktopping of the inner parts of the bus park is in the final stage. The construction was launched five years ago.
The bus park is expected to meet the demand for a bus park in the eastern region’s busiest market hub for the coming 50 years. The Indian embassy provided Rs 28 million and the rest of the amount was provided by different authorities including DDC, National Planning Commission, Anarmani VDC and Shanischare VDC for the construction of the bus park. Once the park comes into operation, it can handle 96 buses and over 50 taxis at a time. All buses operating on East West Highway and Mechi Highway from Birtamod will be parked there.
