Summit Oxygen's New O2 Mask

Wednesday - 24th March 2010

Neil Greenwood, Director of Summit Oxygen, was at EH recently to talk about Summit Oxygen’s new and improved oxygen mask which they are putting up in the market this season. According to Neil this is an updated version of the mask that they currently have on the market.

Oxygen Mask

The new mask has a very compact oxygen reservoir and a sleek design than the earlier version (which was a bit cumbersome). This makes the new mask easier to use and carry. The face mask is made from hardened exo-skeleton which prevents it from ‘spreading’ across the face when pulled tight. There are two sizes available small and large.

The new and improved features of Summit Oxygen’s mask are:

New and Improved Oxygen Flow Indicator – Oxygen Flow Indicator tells the climber whether he/ she is getting the flow of oxygen. The earlier version featured a cumbersome bottle to check oxygen flow. But Summit Oxygen’s new version has a small transparent tube with a spring attached which lets you know whether you are getting the oxygen. When you breathe the spring moves up and down. This is an improvised version from other masks currently available in the market.

Oxygen Flow Selector- The Oxygen Flow Selector allows you to control the flow of oxygen. It has an off position, that allows you to switch off the oxygen supply when not needed, thus preventing the oxygen from going to waste.

Other Features:
Valves – It has two valves, for inhalation and exhalation.
Head Harness – The head harness is fitted onto the mask with clips (designed to be used with mittens on). If one needs to get the moisture out, one can just unclip one side of the face mask.

Neil Greenwood says, “This is the first season we are putting in the market .So we have a number of mountains we are testing this season. At the moment we have advertised the price at $600 .If you don’t want the flow selector – this might save you a further $150, so the price would go down to $450.”
