A 13-year-old Southland boy is gearing up in Nepal to climb Mt. Everest via its north side in Tibet.
Jordan Alexander Romero, who turns 14 in July and calls Big Bear Lake home, hopes to become the youngest person ever to climb the world’s highest mountain, reported CNN in Kathmandu on Friday.
Jordan and his support team departed Monday for Asia from Los Angeles International Airport. They made stops in Hong Kong and Bangladesh before arriving here Thursday.
He’ll be climb the Summit with his father and his father’s girlfriend, both pro adventure racers, as well as Sherpas.
“I’m doing this for myself and I’m doing this for everybody who has supported me and for everybody who has helped me along the way,” Jordan told CNN via a Skype video interview from Kathmandu on Thursday.
The youngster’s plan is to become the youngest person in the world to climb the highest summits on the world’s seven continents by the end of 2010.
