The Embassy of Nepal in London participated in the London Mela-2010 for the first time since its inception in 2003.
The fete held in Gunnersbury Park of Central London on August 8, 2010 had an active support and participation of artists and volunteers of the Nepali Diaspora.
On the occasion, the embassy focused on the promotion of Nepal, specifically on tourism, culture and the Nepali cuisine with the Nepali Paperedge youth band and Naumati cultural band, Nepalese folk dances and stalls of Nepali cuisine focusing on Nepal Tourism Year 2011 (NTY-2011).
The Nepali stalls during the festival were visited by thousands of people with publicity materials, posters and CDs on Nepal provided to the visitors.
There was also the raffle draws for various attractive prizes to its visitors sponsored by Qatar Airlines and Himalayas Nepal Publication. The first prize was Qatar Airlines tickets for two persons for the London-Kathmandu-London sector and second was seven nights stay in a 4 star hotel in Kathmandu.
The money collected from raffle tickets was donated to the London Mela organisers for the support of recent flash floods victims in Pakistan.
The embassy of Nepal has also already successfully organised two focused programmes on NTY-2011 in Scotland and Wales in collaboration with the Nepali communities based in the respective regions.
