The Nepal Tourism Year 2011 implementation committee hosted an interaction with the ambassadors of the countries that have been invited to the campaign’s inauguration on Jan. 15 in a bid to garner support and find common avenues to consolidate endeavours for the greater interest of tourism in Asia.
Envoys from Japan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka along with representatives from the embassies of China, Malaysia and Pakistan and the honorary consul of the Maldives participated in the interaction. They were informed about Nepal’s ambitious plan to attract one million tourists as part of the effort to create jobs and reduce poverty.
A breakdown of the number of arrivals expected from different markets was also presented. The committee appealed to the diplomats for support to make NTY a success. “The government is committed to providing incentives and special packages to entrepreneurs and tourists to make the event successful,” said Kishore Thapa, secretary of the Tourism Ministry.
Madan Kumar Bhattarai, secretary of the Foreign Ministry, said, “We are focusing on India and China as they generate millions of tourists annually, and attracting even a small part of their outbound during the campaign would be a great success.”
