BEIJING: Nepal is promoting Nepal Tourism Year 2011 at the Nepali art and culture exhibition — in Shanghai, China — that has kicked off yesterday.
Nepali ambassador to China Tanka Prasad Karki inaugurated the Nepali art and cultural exhibition held at the Baoshan International Folk-art Exhibition Centre yesterday evening. At the exhibition different articles related to the Nepali art and culture — including audiovisual items — are being showcased.
The visitors to the exhibition — in the industrial and business hub of China, where the World Expo is also taking place — were given the publicity materials on the Nepal Tourism Year-2011 prepared by Nepal Tourism Board (NTY 2011).
The exhibition is organised by Nepal Implementing Experts’ Group which has officially got the responsibility of managing the Nepali pavilion at the World Expo, in partnership with the Shanghai-based Honorary Consulate General of Nepal. The exhibition will run until December 31.
During the inauguration ceremony yesterday evening deputy governor of the Baoshan District People’s Government Li Yuan, Honorary Consul General of Nepal to Shanghai Wu Jiangming, president of the Implementing Experts’ Group Amrit Ratna Shakya, vice-president Subarna Krishna Shrestha, director of the Nepali Pavilion Binayak Shah, senior coordinator Binod Bahadur Shrestha were also present. Some 30 countries are taking part in the art and culture exhibition.
Meanwhile, More than seven million people have observed the Nepal Pavilion at the World Expo that is underway in Shanghai since last five months.
“Over seven million visitors observed the Nepal pavilion till yesterday — the 171st day since the start of the expo,” said director of the Nepal Pavilion Binayak Shah. He said that Nepal Pavilion is among the top ten best and popular pavilions at the World Expo.
“The Nepal Pavilion, besides promoting the art and culture of Nepal, has been publicising Nepal Tourism Year-2011,” he said, adding that the five-day long trade fair of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) will be held in Kathmandu in December.
