Tourism experts urge to develop tour packages to boost wetlands

Friday - 12th November 2010

Ministry of Forests and Soil Conservation (MoFSC) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) jointly on Wednesday came up with the two wetlands as tourist destinations targeting Nepal Tourism Year 2011 (NTY-2011).

The destinations include Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (KTWR) in Eastern Nepal and Ghodaghodi Lake (GLA) in Far-Western Nepal.

Speaking at a function held in the capital, tourism experts have recommended developing tour package including these selected wetlands in order to boost Nepal’s tourist destinations.

KTWR is famous for eco-tourism which is rich in wild species of animals, birds, and vegetation and its area covers 350 hectares of land in Sunsari, Saptari and Sarlahi districts.

Similarly, GLA is famous for various flora and fauna and it also carries cultural and religious value. This area covers over 2,563 hectares in Karnali district.

Experts also said that KTWR via Ilam and Barahkhestra can be made as tour package for Eastern region. For Western region, as GLA is a corridor to Suklaphanta Wildlife Reserve and Bardiya National Park, there can be tour package for tourists for longer stay. nepalnews.com
