25,000 visitors expected to attend NTY launch

As many as 25,000 people are expected to attend the formal launch at the Dasharath Stadium here on Jan 14.

Speaking at a press meet, Yogendra Shakya, coordinator of the NTY Main Organizing Committee, informed that President Dr Ram Baran Yadav will inaugurate the event which will be participated by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal and Secretary General of UN World Tourism Organization and Tourism ministers of SAARC member countries, among others. Tourism ministers of Cambodia and Iran have also confirmed their participation.

Representatives from 49 international media organizations from countries like India, Russia, UK, Qatar and Japan, among others, are also attending the formal launch of the year-long tourism promotional campaign.

“We are inviting dignitaries from different sector to spread NTY´s slogan - Together for Tourism,” Shakya said.

Prachanda Man Shrestha, CEO of Nepal Tourism Board, said historic rise in tourist arrivals in 2010 had spread positive message about Nepal ahead of NTY´s formal launch. “Tourism activities will be held round the year. We are still working on to introduce new packages and unveil new destinations,” he added.
Along with the inaugural ceremony, Tharu Food Festival and air show by paramotors would be organized at Tundikhel.

Kul Bahadur Thapa, choreographer of the inaugural ceremony, told Republica that about 6,000 people, including school children and personnel of Nepal Army, Armed Police Force and Nepal Police, would perform in the inaugural ceremony.

The inaugural ceremony will see cultural performance by different groups and fireworks among others.
