COIMBATORE, India, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- Himalayan nation Nepal is getting ready to become a top tourist hub in Asia by promoting its scenic hill ranges, heritage structures and cool climate, Press Trust of India (PTI).
As part of the tourism promotional plans, the Nepal government has declared 2011 as 'Year of Tourism'. To achieve the aim, it has chalked out plans to welcome one million foreign tourists during the year, a top tourism official, said here, in the South Indian state Tamil Nadu.
"Nepal Tourism Board has a target of welcoming one million visitors during this year. To make tourism safe and economical, we have introduced a new concept of 'Home Stay' by which the tourists can feel Nepal in a better way," Nandini Lahe-Thapa, senior Director, Tourism Marketing and Promotion, Nepal Tourism Board told PTI here.
Nandini was in the city as part of South India Sales Mission 2011 with seven Nepalese travel and Tourism companies.
The number of Indian visitors to the Nepal are on rise since the country is considered as the shortest foreign destination for Indians, she said.
Majority of Indian tourists, especially those from South India, mainly prefer religious centres such as the renowned Pashupathinath Temple and Lumbini,the birthplace of Lord Buddha and Kailash Manasarovar.
