SURKHET: Important tourism sites of the western region of Nepal have been relegated to the backburner. It is due to the lack of improved motorway, electricity service and publicity.
Important tourism destinations such as Jajura lake, Gupti lake, Chamere cave, Siddagensh, Hattisuke and Bahar lake located in Bidhyapur Village Development Committee (VDC) of the district are gradually deteriorating.
The year 2011 has been announced the Nepal Tourism Year having the slogan of 'Together for Tourism' and national campaign has been in place to make this a year success. However the effect of the tourism year is almost zero in Surkhet.
The possible tourism destinations are getting decayed day after day due to the lack of focused attention from sides concerned, said Krishna Prasad Kandel, a local of Bidhyapur-8.
Important tourism site of Surkhet, Chamere cave is being buried in the absence of conservation efforts, he added.
