Chitlang is an ancient Newari settlement in Makwanpur district which is a part of Narayani zone .Inscriptions dating back to Lichchhavi era have been found in this place. It lies in the high level of the northern part of Makwanpur district and southern main path of the 8289ft Chandragiri hill.
An inscription was found in Toukhel, Ward 6 of Chitlang VDC, established by king Amshubarma (in sambat 37). According to the inscription, Amshubarma had given the land to shepherds and established a settlement for shepherds in Toukhel, Nhulgaun, Kunchhal etc. of Chitlang. Some historians believe that these people called Gopalis are the descendants of rulers of Gopal era. The main ethnic population are Newari,Tamang,Khas etc. Chitlang is called by various names such as – Chitrapur, Shudhapur, Kolapur, Hastinapur, Champapur. The climate is ideal to visit at any time during the Year with warm days and cool nights.
Chitlang Village is a rare destination for the visitors, Culturally, Naturally, Traditionally and Geographically. Nepal has diferent indigenous ethnic groups, among them, Tamang, Magar, Chhetri Braman, Newar and gurung lives in this area. Therefore, this new destination promoting by Buddha Nepal Trek and offers an adventure holiday who keen to visit natural treasure. Traveling on foot is the only way to see much of Nepal, firstly the mountains, but also and perhaps more importantly the people and their way of life. The tour offers you to see tamang’s settlements, culture and religon, lifestyles and panoramic view of the mountains. You go slowly with many stops to look, meet the local people and make your dreams come true. The village shall reach by drive from Kathmandu and walk three hours to village. You will be welcome into the community and invited to stay with one of the village families. The accommodation is simple but comfortable bedding and clean toilet facilities. The food will be delicious Nepalese local and eating as one of the family.During the stay you will be able to feel what it is like to live the life of a Nepali villager. Walk with your family while they go to about their daily chores, tending animals, tilling the fields, going to school with the children, or just sitting in the sun talking with neighbors. Feel free to wander, safely, by yourself and look at developments that the community have supported and funded; the village school, primary health centre, the agricultural and forest plantation. And, at the end of your stay, you will be overwhelmed by the farewell that your new family will give you. If you never come this way again the village and its people will remain in your heart forever.

How to Reach Chitlang:
Chitlang is approximately 27km away from Kathmandu. One can have a drive to chitlang either by Local transport or private transport whichever is possible. By drive it will take approximately 2-3 hours depending upon your transportation used (Private vehicle or Public vehicle) OR Chitlang is also reachable by walking/hiking which will take 4-5 hours approximately.
