Holi is a festival of colors. It is celebrated on March 11, 2025, with great joy and happiness by all the Hindus. This is the festival of great love and fun. It is celebrated in almost all parts of Nepal. It is observed symbolically to mark the victory of God over the Devil or good over the evils. It is a beautiful spring festival. It is marked by happy events like meeting new and old friends, pouring colors all over the body of each other, laughing and merrymaking, forgetting pains and anxiety, forgiving, and strengthening the bond of the relationship. The date of the festival is fixed according to our lunar calendar. Mostly, it falls in March. People celebrate this festival by exchanging colors on their faces and sprinkling colored water on each other. They sing, dance, and visit their friends and neighbors to exchange their happiness.
The story behind the Holi festival is that once in the ancient days, a king named Hiranya Kashyap had a son called Prahlad. The son was a pure soul a devotee of Lord Vishnu (the highest Hindu god for maintenance), whereas his father never liked to see him worshiping Lord Vishnu. But Prahlad's devotion enraged Hiranya Kashyap and instigated him to conspire a plan to kill him by fire. He asked her sister Holika, who had received a special power of being fireproof from the god, to destroy Prahlad with her power. As per instruction, with a strong intention of destroying Prahlad, Holika took him in her lap and sat in the fire. Surprisingly, Prahlad who did not have fireproof blessings, survived the fire without any harm, while Holika got burnt in the fire despite the blessing from the god. From this day, the Holi festival started marking the victory of good over evil.
