Muktinath has been a pilgrimage site since 330 BC. Jomsom has a natural spring and a flame of natural gas that seems to burn on water. The primordial guardian of the region was the sacred mountain Dhaulagiri and its snowy white bulk dominates much of the trek. The Gandaki Gorge is considered the deepest in the world.
